Klezmer Workshop and Concert

Mulberry Klezmer is pleased to invite you to a klezmer workshop and concert with Susi Evans (clarinet) and Szilvia Csaranko (accordion) and friends.

Both will held be on Saturday, 26th of March, at St Pauls Church in Cambridge.

Workshop

Susi Evans (clarinet) and Szilvia Csaranko (accordion) will use tunes from their Klezmer Playbook to teach and demonstrate as much as they can in 2 hours about how to play in a klezmer style! This will include learning four great tunes from the klezmer repertoire as well as modes, ornamentation and how to play accompaniment to Yiddish dances.

The workshop is open to everyone who plays an instrument, from approx. grade 4 level upwards. Ability to read music is required, but we may also do a tiny bit of playing by ear. Sheet music and audio recordings will be provided in advance.

Concert

After the workshop there will be a relaxed evening celebrating traditional klezmer wedding and festival music of Jewish Central and Eastern Europe with Susi Evans & Szilvia Csaranko and friends.

The first half of the evening will be performed by two exceptional musicians Susi & Szilvia, who are passionate about the tradition of klezmer music.

The second half of the evening will be in the format of an open mic/jam session, led by Susi & Szilvia who will be joined by members of the Cambridge Mulberry Klezmer and Folk groups. There will also be the opportunity for anyone who wants to bring along a suitable acoustic instrument (e.g. violin, cello, double bass, clarinet, accordion, recorder, brass, percussion etc.) to join in the fun!
